Rep. Tutor calls for temporary suspension of airport and seaport fees amid fuel price surge

TAGBILARAN CITY — Bohol 3rd District Representative Kristine Alexie Besas Tutor has urged the national government to temporarily halt all terminal fees at airports and seaports nationwide, warning that soaring fuel prices could severely impact tourism and local businesses.

Tutor said the ongoing Middle East tensions have driven up oil prices, affecting not only transportation and food sectors but also summer travel, which peaks from March to May.

“If the government does not act quickly, the tourism sector will suffer, along with countless Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises that depend on vacationers,” she said.

The lawmaker also called for the removal of “extortion checkpoints” targeting commuter buses and vans carrying tourists, as well as repairs to tourism roads and reductions in toll fees.

“Every delayed response means more jobs lost and more livelihoods at risk,” Tutor stressed.

The appeal comes as the Civil Aeronautics Board (CAB) announced that airline fuel surcharges will rise to Level 8 from April 1 to 15, 2026, citing fluctuations in global jet fuel prices.
