TAGBILARAN CITY — Typhoon Tino (international name: Kalmaegi) has slightly intensified as it moves closer to the Eastern Visayas–Caraga area, prompting the state weather bureau Pagasa to raise Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 4 over several towns in northeastern Bohol.
As of 5 p.m. Monday, the towns of President Carlos P. Garcia, Getafe, Trinidad, Ubay, Bien Unido, and Talibon were placed under Signal No. 4 due to the threat of typhoon-force winds reaching up to 184 kilometers per hour.
Pagasa warned of a significant to severe threat to life and property in these areas.
Meanwhile, San Miguel, Mabini, Buenavista, Inabanga, Danao, Dagohoy, Guindulman, Pilar, Alicia, Candijay, Anda, Jagna, Duero, Sierra Bullones, Carmen, Sagbayan, Clarin, and Tubigon remain under Signal No. 3, where storm-force winds may cause moderate to significant damage.
The rest of Bohol is under Signal No. 2, with gale-force winds expected to bring minor to moderate impacts.
As of 4 p.m., the center of Typhoon Tino was located 170 kilometers east-southeast of Guiuan, Eastern Samar, packing maximum sustained winds of 130 km/h near the center and gusts of up to 160 km/h, moving west at 20 km/h.
Governor Erico Aristotle Aumentado earlier suspended work in government offices and classes in all levels across the province, urging residents to stay indoors, prepare emergency supplies, and heed evacuation advisories, especially those in low-lying and coastal areas.
Pagasa said Tino is expected to make landfall or pass close to Homonhon Island or Dinagat Islands tonight or early Tuesday morning before crossing Leyte and the Visayas, including northern parts of Bohol, on its westward path.
Authorities have also warned of possible storm surges and coastal flooding, particularly along the province’s northern and eastern shores, as sea conditions remain very rough to high.
Residents are urged to stay alert and monitor official advisories from Pagasa and local disaster councils.
