TALIBON, Bohol — Authorities have launched an investigation into a viral altercation involving minors at a crossing in Barangay San Jose, assuring the public that legal proceedings are underway and that the incident is considered isolated.
In a press release, the Talibon Municipal Police Station, led by Police Major Romar Labasbas, said the incident occurred around 1 a.m. on March 17 near a stoplight crossing, where a group of minors were reportedly instigating and engaging in a fight.
The incident, captured on video by a concerned citizen and later circulated on social media, did not immediately reach the police at the time it happened.
Authorities said they only took action after the victim—who is of legal age—formally reported the matter later that afternoon and filed a complaint.
Police promptly began identifying those involved. However, since several individuals are minors, investigators are following procedures under Republic Act 9344, or the Juvenile Justice and Welfare Act. Coordination with the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) is ongoing for the proper conduct of the discernment process.
Investigators are also gathering sworn statements and preparing documents for the filing of appropriate charges against the minors involved.
Labasbas emphasized that the incident involved a specific group and should not be seen as reflective of the town’s overall peace and order situation.
“Our police force continues to maintain regular visibility patrols to ensure the safety and security of our community. Talibon remains a peaceful place to live,” he said.
Police urged the public to remain calm and rely on official channels for verified updates, while encouraging witnesses and concerned individuals to coordinate directly with authorities.
