Panglao showcases heritage through 5th ‘Karaang Butang’ display

PANGLAO, Bohol —The 5th “Karaang Butang” exhibit at the historic Old Panglao Municipal Hall showcases over 500 antiques and heirlooms that tell the story of the town’s rich heritage.

Highlights include a 124-year-old wooden basin (duwang), traditional tools like charcoal irons and stone grinders, vintage typewriters, musical instruments, and household items that showcase life in Panglao through the centuries.

All 10 barangays contributed to the display, organized by the Municipal Tourism Office through the Culture and the Arts Division.

The exhibit, which opened on Tuesday, February 10, will run for the entire month of February, allowing residents and visitors to explore Panglao’s rich history and cultural heritage.

Mayor Boy Arcay, Vice Mayor Daisy Delambaca, and members of the Sangguniang Bayan attended the opening program.

Mayor Edgardo Arcay said the exhibit connects the past with the present:
“Dili lang ni ordinaryo nga pasundayag kundi buhing paghinumdum sa atong kasaysayan ug sa kinabuhi sa atong mga katigulangan.”

Arcay said the old artifacts serve as reminders of Panglao’s rich past, noting the importance of remembering history.

“Nindot handumon ang kagahapon,” he said.

He added that the exhibit also gives tourists a chance to view and appreciate the town’s heritage through the displayed artifacts.

All 10 barangays of Panglao participated in the activity, showcasing various heirlooms and historical items passed down through generations.

Winners:
1st place-Doljo
2nd place- Bil-isan
3rd place- Lourdes

The “Karaang Butang” display is spearheaded by the Municipal Tourism Office through its Culture and the Arts Division, as part of efforts to promote local history, preserve cultural heritage, and strengthen community pride.
