Tricycle-patrol car collision in Dimiao kills one, injures three

TAGBILARAN CITY — One person was killed in a road accident involving a Jagna Municipal Police Station patrol car and a tricycle along the national highway in Barangay Tangohay in Dimiao town on Sunday morning, February 8.

Initial reports from Dimiao Police indicate that the tricycle driven by Maximino Quiboy Yecyec of Barangay Taongon Cabatuan in Dimiao was carrying two passengers who were reportedly on their way home from church when the collision occurred shortly after 8 a.m.

The patrol car, driven by Police Senior Master Sergeant Neil Bernil of Jagna MPS from the Loay Regional Trial Court, was on official duty to deliver case-related documents when it accidentally struck the tricycle upon reaching the area.

The impact of the collision was strong, resulting in extensive damage to the front portion of the patrol car, while the tricycle was thrown several meters away.

One of the tricycle passengers identified as Marcela Namuag, 80, was declared dead, while the driver and the other passengers sustained injuries and bruises. They were immediately rushed to Gov. Celestino Gallares Memorial Medical Center in Tagbilaran City for medical treatment.

Police said an investigation is ongoing to determine liability in the incident. Bernil is currently under police custody as the probe continues.
