TAGBILARAN CITY — A joint police team arrested a 40-year-old woman in Baclayon, Bohol on Saturday evening, February 7, 2026, in connection with a cyberlibel case, authorities confirmed.

The arrest, carried out at around 6 p.m., was led by the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group–7 (CIDG-7) Bohol Provincial Field Unit under Oplan “Pagtugis,” with support from the Provincial Intelligence Unit of the Bohol Provincial Police Office, Regional Intelligence Unit 7–Bohol, and the Baclayon Municipal Police Station.

Police withheld the suspect’s name, but reports reaching Bohol Island News identified her as a businesswoman and the daughter of a former town mayor.

She has been charged with cyber libel by Bohol 2nd District Rep. Maria Vanessa “Vanvan” Aumentado over alleged defamatory posts on social media.

The suspect was arrested by virtue of a warrant issued on January 26, 2026 by Judge Cherry Chiarra Luat Hernando of the Regional Trial Court Branch 93 in Quezon City for alleged violation of Republic Act No. 10175, or the Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012, particularly cyberlibel.

Authorities said the woman was informed of the nature of the charges against her and apprised of her constitutional rights at the time of arrest.

She was brought to the CIDG Bohol Provincial Field Unit. The businesswoman was released after she was able to post bail.

Bohol Provincial Police Director Col. Patricio C. Degay Jr. commended the operatives for the successful operation, citing strong coordination among intelligence and law enforcement units.

“Cyberlibel has become increasingly prevalent in the digital age. This operation sends a clear message that as crimes evolve with technology, law enforcement and the justice system remain adaptive and firm,” Degay said. “No one is beyond accountability.”

The Philippine National Police in Bohol reiterated its commitment to enforcing the law and pursuing justice across all forms of criminality, both online and offline.
