Over 11,000 individuals evacuated in Bohol amid Basyang; no damage reported

TAGBILARAN CITY — The Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) reported that 3,947 families or 11,226 individuals were evacuated in different parts of Bohol as a precautionary measure due to Tropical Cyclone Basyang.

PDRRMO data showed that Tagbilaran City recorded 129 evacuated families, or 458 individuals. Other municipalities that reported evacuees were Calape with 415 families (1,070 individuals), Catigbian with 107 families (302 individuals), Trinidad with 267 families (1,013 individuals), Ubay with 122 families (672 individuals), Candijay with 532 families (1,132 individuals), Mabini with 396 families (1,296 individuals), Jagna with 187 families (569 individuals), and Lila with 175 families (586 individuals), while Dauis logged 377 evacuated families.

Despite the number of evacuees, PDRRMO head Dr. Anthony R. Damalerio clarified that the province did not suffer any damage from the storm.

“Generally, walay impact ang Bagyong Basyang sa Bohol. Walay damage to properties or infrastructures. Wala sab reported casualties. Duna lang tay increasing number of evacuees,” Damalerio said.

As of 11 a.m., Bohol is under Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 1. The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said Basyang has weakened into a tropical depression and was last located over the coastal waters of Anda, Bohol as of 10 a.m.

The weather bureau said the tropical depression has maximum sustained winds of 55 kilometers per hour, gusts of up to 70 kilometers per hour, and is moving west-northwestward at 10 kilometers per hour.

Local authorities continue to closely monitor the weather situation and urged the public to stay alert and comply with advisories from Pagasa and local disaster offices.
