Storm Signal No. 2 raised in parts of Bohol as Basyang nears Eastern Mindanao

TAGBILARAN CITY — Tropical Storm Basyang (Penha) has prompted the hoisting of Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 2 over several areas in Bohol, particularly in the southern towns, as the weather system accelerates toward Eastern Mindanao, according to Pagasa.

In its 11 a.m. bulletin, Pagasa said gale-force winds may affect parts of Bohol under Signal No. 2, posing minor to moderate risks to life and property. Areas covered include Tagbilaran City and the towns of Bilar, Guindulman, Loboc, Jagna, Maribojoc, Dauis, Panglao, Anda, Candijay, Dimiao, Valencia, Garcia Hernandez, Sierra Bullones, Balilihan, Calape, Mabini, Alicia, and nearby municipalities.

The rest of the province has been placed under Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 1, where strong winds with minimal to minor impacts are expected.

As of 11 a.m., the center of Tropical Storm Basyang was estimated at 295 kilometers east of Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur. The storm has maximum sustained winds of 65 kilometers per hour near the center, gusts of up to 80 kph, and is moving westward at 25 kph. Tropical cyclone winds extend up to 300 kilometers from the center.

Pagasa warned that strong to gale-force winds may be enhanced in coastal and mountainous areas and advised the public to remain vigilant, secure light structures, and monitor further weather advisories, especially for possible heavy rainfall.
