Heavy rains brought by Tropical Depression Verbena on Tuesday, Nov. 25, flooded several towns in Bohol, submerging homes and disrupting travel.
In Barangay Loreto, Cortes, resident Pacifica Coquilla recalled how quickly the water rose as the river overflowed.
“Dili hangin. Sa uwan gyud, kusog kaayo ang uwan…” she said, describing the rapid surge of floodwaters. Several houses in the area were submerged.
Waist-deep water made it difficult for residents to move around, leaving some stranded on higher ground until the flood began to subside.
In Barangay Tupas, Antequera, several homes were also inundated.
In Poblacion Centro, Tubigon, some residents were forced to evacuate at midnight when water levels suddenly rose.
Flooding likewise rendered a portion of the national highway in Maribojoc impassable, though the water receded after several hours, allowing vehicles to pass again.
Local authorities continue to monitor rivers and low-lying communities as rains from TD Verbena persist.
