TAGBILARAN CITY — A portion of a road in Barangay Candanas, a hinterland village in Garcia Hernandez town, Bohol, has been closed to motorists after ground cracks and movement were observed on Wednesday, Nov. 5.

The affected section, located about 53 kilometers east of Tagbilaran City, was rendered impassable after the pavement shifted and dislocated, prompting local authorities to immediately close the area for public safety.

The local government unit (LGU) of Garcia Hernandez has declared the road off-limits to vehicles and pedestrians, warning residents to avoid the site as further movement of the ground remains possible.

“Sa pagkakaron, ipasarado sa LGU ang maong dalan kay delikado na kini para sa publiko,” the municipal government said in a statement, adding that it remains on alert and continues to monitor all barangays to ensure the safety and security of residents.

Local officials are now coordinating with experts and have requested assistance from the Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB) to conduct a geological inspection and assessment of the affected area.

Initial reports suggest that recent heavy rains may have softened the soil, contributing to the ground movement, but authorities are waiting for the results of the technical evaluation.

The LGU has urged the public to cooperate and stay updated through official advisories as inspection and clearing operations continue.
