TAGBILARAN CITY – Bohol has been placed under Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal (TCWS) No. 1 as Severe Tropical Storm Tino (international name: Kalmaegi) continues to intensify while moving westward over the Philippine Sea, the state weather bureau said late Saturday, November 2.
As of 10 p.m., Tino was located 605 kilometers east of Guiuan, Eastern Samar, packing maximum sustained winds of 100 kilometers per hour near the center and gusts of up to 125 kph, according to Pagasa. The storm is moving west at 30 kph and may reach typhoon category within 12 hours.
Under Signal No. 1, Bohol is expected to experience strong winds (39–61 kph) and occasional rains within 36 hours. Residents, especially in coastal and low-lying areas, are advised to prepare for possible flooding and wind-related hazards.
Sea travel remains risky for small vessels due to moderate to rough seas of up to 2.0 meters along Bohol’s coastal waters. PAGASA has also warned of possible storm surges in parts of the Visayas within the next 48 hours.
The Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) has urged local disaster councils to stay on alert, monitor updates, and prepare evacuation plans if needed.
Based on Pagasa’s forecast, Tino is expected to make landfall over Eastern Samar, Leyte, or Dinagat Islands late Sunday or early Monday before crossing the Visayas region, including nearby areas of Bohol, and emerging over the West Philippine Sea by Wednesday.
The public is urged to remain vigilant and follow advisories from local officials and Pagasa as Tino continues to strengthen.
