TAGBILARAN CITY, BOHOL — The long-awaited arrival of SM Supermalls in Bohol is finally taking shape, with construction set to begin this November, officials confirmed.

On Wednesday, September 24, Christian Caesar Perez, Senior Corporate Compliance Manager of SM Supermalls’ Corporate Compliance Group, personally met with Governor Aris Aumentado to announce the timeline. He was joined by Edgardo Godinez Jr. during the courtesy visit at the Capitol.

Perez said SM is determined to start the construction of the three-story mall within the last quarter of this year. The development will rise on a 6-hectare property (61,500 sqm) in Tagbilaran City.

The project is expected to generate 800 to 1,000 jobs during construction and employ around 130 staff members once the mall officially opens.

Accompanying Governor Aumentado in welcoming the SM officials were Provincial Administrator Asteria Caberte, Chief of Staff Atty. Filipina Piollo, PGSO Head Eustaquio Caliao, BEDIPO Head Ma. Fe Dominese, and Supervising Administrative Officer Metodio “John” Maraguinot Jr.

SM also presented its site development plan and confirmed that tomorrow, the SM Group will join provincial officials in a public consultation/hearing in Barangay Cogon, where the mall will be built.

As part of the process, SM must also secure a Letter of No Objection (LONO) from the barangay, city, and provincial governments before full-scale construction begins.

Governor Aumentado welcomed the development, noting the project’s potential to boost the local economy, create jobs, and provide more shopping and lifestyle options for Boholanos.
