TAGBILARAN CITY — Bohol 2nd District Representative Vanessa “Van-Van” Aumentado on Wednesday, Sept. 24, has filed two separate bills in the House of Representatives seeking to increase the salaries of government nurses and medical doctors to strengthen the country’s healthcare workforce.
House Bill No. 4838 proposes to raise the entry-level salary of government nurses from Salary Grade 15 to Salary Grade 19. The measure amends Section 32 of Republic Act 9173, or the Philippine Nurses Act of 2002.
“This measure not only aligns with fair labor standards but also serves as an investment in the country’s human capital,” Aumentado said, stressing that the increase would uplift the morale of nurses, encourage young professionals to enter the public sector, and reaffirm the State’s commitment to valuing healthcare workers as vital partners in nation-building.
House Bill No. 4839, meanwhile, seeks to upgrade the basic salary of government medical doctors from Salary Grade 21 to Salary Grade 24.
According to Aumentado, the bill is intended to retain competent and experienced medical doctors in government service, improve morale among healthcare professionals, and ensure the continuous availability of skilled practitioners in public hospitals and clinics.
She said both measures are crucial in addressing the long-standing challenge of retaining health workers in government service and in strengthening the country’s healthcare delivery system.
