TAGBILARAN CITY — Newly elected Philippine Councilors League (PCL)-Bohol Chapter president Cortes Councilor Joahna Cabalit-Initay has vowed to champion programs that will provide greater protection and opportunities for councilors across the province.
In her first statement as PCL-Bohol president, Initay underscored the need to extend insurance coverage for all councilors, with the possibility of including their families if resources permit. She emphasized that this initiative would ensure security and peace of mind for public servants and their loved ones.
Beyond welfare benefits, Initay said her administration will focus on strengthening capacity-building efforts through seminars, training programs, and benchmarking activities. She also committed to providing members with access to travel assistance, rebates, and international opportunities for exposure and learning.
To support the legislative work of councilors, Initay plans to enhance access to legal research and references while pushing for continuing education programs. She also intends to institutionalize standard procedures and manuals within the PCL to ensure consistency and transparency in its operations.
“Transparent leadership and accountability will be the hallmarks of this administration,” Initay stressed, adding that she will work closely with the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) and the Provincial Government of Bohol to maximize the league’s role in serving both legislators and their constituents.
As president of PCL-Bohol, Initay also assumes a seat as an ex-officio member of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan, where she will represent the voice of municipal and city councilors in the province.
