CARMEN, Bohol — A new P49.75-million facility designed to boost cassava production and marketing in the province was officially turned over to a local cooperative in Carmen, Bohol, marking the largest enterprise project of its kind in the province.

The Bohol Cassava Production, Consolidation, Processing, and Marketing Enterprise located in Barangay Katipunan was formally awarded to the PNB KGB Multipurpose Cooperative. The facility is equipped with dryers, generators, planting materials, and modern processing equipment aimed at strengthening the cassava value chain—from cultivation to marketing.

Governor Aris Aumentado lauded the project, describing it as a “dream fulfilled” for local farmers.

“Makalipay nga miabot na gyod ang inyong gipangandoy nga suporta sa inyong pagpananom og balanghoy, pag-process, pag-consolidate ug pag-market sa inyong produkto,” Aumentado said, assuring that the project will bring sustainable income if managed properly.

The facility was funded under the Department of Agriculture – Philippine Rural Development Project (DA-PRDP) in partnership with the World Bank, with a total investment of P49,757,588.44.

Aumentado stressed that the initiative is part of the provincial government’s poverty-reduction efforts by creating sustainable livelihood opportunities in agriculture.

He challenged members of the PNB KGB Multi-purpose Cooperative—which covers the barangays of Poblacion Norte, Bicao, Katipunan, Guadalupe, and Buenavista—to maximize the project’s potential.

“Ayaw usiki ang higayon ug tinud-a ninyo ang proyekto kay adunay pag-asenso sa produksyon sa balanghoy,” he told the farmers, urging them to fully embrace the opportunity for growth.

With the facility now in place, cassava growers in Carmen and nearby towns are expected to benefit from improved production systems, better processing capacity, and expanded market reach.
