CEBU CITY – The Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Cebu has officially announced that Bishop Alberto “Abet” Sy Uy will be canonically installed as the 25th Bishop and the 5th Metropolitan Archbishop of Cebu on September 30, 2025 (Tuesday), at 9 AM.
The joyous announcement marks a historic moment for the local Church, as Archbishop-elect Uy steps into a role once held by revered prelates such as Archbishops Gabriel Reyes, Julio Cardinal Rosales, Ricardo Cardinal Vidal, and Jose S. Palma.
Cebu was first established as a diocese in 1595. It became a Metropolitan Archdiocese in 1934, ushering in a new line of archbishops. With his installation, Archbishop Uy will become the fifth to serve in this capacity, continuing a centuries-long legacy of spiritual leadership in the cradle of Christianity in the Philippines.
The Archdiocese has called on the faithful to unite in prayer and thanksgiving as they prepare to welcome their new shepherd.
Further details about the installation rites, thanksgiving celebration for outgoing Archbishop Jose S. Palma, and other related activities will be released in the coming weeks.
