TAGBILARAN CITY- Bohol is officially preparing to host the Central Visayas Regional Athletic Association (CVIRAA) Meet in 2028, marking a major step toward becoming a top sports tourism destination—and a potential host for the Palarong Pambansa in the near future.
The provincial government and Department of Education (DepEd) Region VII held the first local organizing committee meeting at the PPDO Conference Room, led by Governor Erico Aristotle Aumentado, DepEd Regional Director Salustiano Jimenez, and DepEd Bohol officer-in-charge Fay Luarez, among other key officials and partners.
With 10,000 to 12,000 athletes and delegates expected, the province is gearing up by improving sports facilities, billeting quarters, and transportation, while ensuring security and coordination across sectors.
“We must work together to make this a CVIRAA that truly reflects Boholano pride,” said Aumentado, emphasizing a whole-of-government and community approach.
The province also confirmed its intent to bid for the Palarong Pambansa, the country’s premier student-athlete event. Director Jimenez expressed confidence that Bohol’s performance in CVIRAA 2028 could boost its chances.
As the country’s only Unesco Global Geopark, Bohol sees this opportunity as more than a sports event—it’s a platform to promote its identity, tourism, and long-term development.
