The military has encountered a group of New People’s Army (NPA) rebels in Bilar town in Bohol province that had been declared insurgency-free many years ago.
Troops of the 47th Infantry Battalion (IB) of the Philippine Army were deployed after receiving reports about the presence of communist guerrillas in Barangay Dagohoy in Bilar on Saturday afternoon, July 8.
They engaged at least 10 NPA rebels who withdrew after a 10-minute gun battle.
There was no casualty in the encounter.
The army lauded residents of Barangay Dagohoy for informing them of the rebels’ presence.
