CORTES, BOHOL — Frustrated residents in Sitio Panabang, Barangay Lourdes, Cortes have taken to social media to air their long-running grievances over the unbearable stench coming from nearby hog and poultry farms.
On Sunday, July 13, 2025, concerned resident Warren Supera posted a video on Facebook showing the situation in their community. In his post, he directly called on Cortes Mayor and Vice Mayor to personally visit the area and experience the foul odor residents have endured for years.
“If you can, please come over right now to Sitio Panabang so you can experience firsthand how awful it smells here,” Supera wrote in his post. He added that previous local officials, despite finishing their three terms in office, failed to address the issue.
Supera also questioned how the Department of Health (DOH) managed to issue permits or pass inspections for the facilities, despite what he described as a stench so intense it felt like “pig feces smeared directly onto your nose.”
He lamented how residents have been forced to keep their windows shut even in the heat of midday to avoid not only the smell but also airborne chicken feathers entering their homes.
Supera urged local leaders to finally act on the decades-old problem, expressing hope that the current administration, elected on promises of change, would deliver solutions where past officials had not.
As of this writing, no official response has been issued by the Cortes local government.
