TAGBILARAN CITY, BOHOL — Just a day after a fatal Philippine king cobra bite incident in Sevilla town, another snakebite case has been reported — this time involving a farmer in Barangay San Isidro, Mabini town.
The victim, identified as Basiledes Vallester, a middle-aged resident of the area, was bitten by a venomous king cobra, locally known as “ugahipon”, at around 9:40 a.m. on Tuesday, July 8.
According to reports, Vallester had just finished working in his rice field and was carrying a rake on his way home when the snake suddenly bit his right leg.
He was immediately brought to a hospital in the nearby town of Ubay. However, due to the lack of available anti-venom, he was referred to the Gov. Celestino Gallares Memorial Medical Center in Tagbilaran City.
As of press time, Vallester is reported to be in stable condition.
Authorities remind the public to seek immediate medical attention in the event of a snakebite so that proper treatment, including anti-venom, can be administered without delay. With a report from Helen Castaño
