PANGLAO, BOHOL — A man from Talibon, Bohol is facing multiple criminal charges after going amok inside a fast food restaurant in Barangay Tawala, Panglao and assaulting responding police officers on Thursday, July 3.
The suspect, who is of legal age and whose identity has not been disclosed, is set to be charged with Direct Assault, Alarms and Scandals, and other possible offenses, according to the Bohol Police Provincial Office (BPPO).
Authorities said the incident happened around 12:50 p.m., when the Bohol Tourist Police Unit (BTPU) stationed in Panglao was alerted by a security guard about a man behaving violently inside the establishment.
When two officers arrived at the scene, they found the suspect shouting, threatening staff and customers, and refusing to cooperate. Despite warnings, the man reportedly became more aggressive and punched one of the officers in the mouth. He continued resisting arrest, prompting the police to subdue and detain him.
The suspect was then brought to the Panglao Police Station and informed of his rights.
Police Colonel Arnel Balagat Banzon, Provincial Director of the BPPO, said the police response was in line with PNP operational procedures and commended the officers for their swift action. He added that the PNP remains open to any investigation related to the incident.
“This is a reminder that unruly behavior and attacks against law enforcers will not go unpunished. We will continue to uphold the rule of law and protect public safety,” Banzon said.
The case is currently being prepared for filing, and the suspect remains in custody as of press time.
