GARCIA HERNANDEZ, BOHOL — Residents in parts of Garcia Hernandez, particularly in Barangays Lungsodaan and Cayam, continue to face water supply problems, sparking frustration and confusion among affected households.
Despite recent rains and the conclusion of local fiestas, residents report that water still isn’t flowing from their taps.
“The fiesta is over, the rains have come, but there’s still no water in Lungsodaan and Cayam,” one resident lamented on Facebook. “Are we just going to live like this? Has anyone even checked the lines?”
Adding to the frustration are social media posts from residents in Poblacion boasting about strong water pressure. “Mam, our faucet water is gushing,” one message read, prompting others to express envy. “We can only say, ‘Sana all,’” said another resident online.
Municipal government issues advisory
In response to the complaints, the municipal government issued a Water Advisory, stating that the shortage is due to the town’s main water source—Maabong Spring—still not being fully recovered.
“As of now, we still have a shortage in our municipal water supply because the Maabong Spring has not yet fully returned to normal flow,” the advisory read. “We urge everyone to conserve and store water, especially as we prepare for the upcoming feast of Sr. San Juan.”
However, the advisory has raised more questions than answers among some residents, particularly those connected to the Camalung Waterworks, which they claim operates separately from the municipal water system.
Some question whether it is accurate to blame the municipal system for issues in Camalung, as others point out that households served by the municipal line—especially in Poblacion—seem to have strong water pressure.
“If Camalung has its own pipeline and system, why blame the municipal line?” asked a resident, directing the question to local authorities, particularly Rico Paglinawan of Municipal Waterworks and Camalung Waterworks.
Residents are calling for clearer communication and a thorough technical inspection to determine the root cause of the water issues in specific barangays, and to avoid further confusion between municipal and barangay-managed systems.
Locals hope that reliable access to water—an essential resource—will be restored soon.
