4 men nabbed in Bohol for illegal possession of firearms under Comelec ban

Four individuals were arrested in separate operations in Duero and Calape, Bohol for violation of Republic Act No. 10591 (Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act) in relation to the Comelec gun ban.

At 10:15 a.m., police personnel from Calape Municipal Police Station arrested two retired military personnel in Sitio Handig, Barangay Bonbon, Calape, Bohol, following a report of suspicious armed individuals.

Both suspects are residents of Cagayan de Oro City.

Confiscated from the suspects were: two  cal. .45 pistols, two steel magazines, multiple live ammunition, two (2) Baofeng handheld radios, two sling bags and a mobile phone.

All suspects are now under the custody of their respective municipal police stations, and appropriate charges are being prepared for filing in court.

In Duero town, barangay tanods had intercepted two suspected armed individuals. Upon arrival, responding officers cornered and arrested two men—aged 50 and 46—from Can-olin and Panas, Candijay, Bohol.

Recovered from their possession were one cal. .45 pistol loaded with ammunition and one cal. .357 Power Custom revolver loaded with ammunition.

The incident happened at 11:30 p. m. on Friday, May 10.

The incident occurred near the residence of the Barangay Itum Punong Barangay and within the same barangay where the incumbent mayor resides.

Authorities are investigating reports that the suspects may have been attempting to influence local voters.

Police Brigadier General  Redrico Maranan, Regional Director of Police Regional Office (PRO-7) commended the quick response and vigilance of the involved police units:

“We are determined to hold accountable those who attempt to intimidate, influence, or endanger our communities. Let this be a warning: PRO-7 will not tolerate any acts of violence or political coercion, ” he said.

He also urged the public to remain alert and to report any suspicious activities that could compromise the safety and integrity of the electoral process. (PRO7-PIO)
