Will both incumbent provincial and city governments ride on satisfaction ratings as they step off to an election next month, hoping to get a new mandate as elected leaders in May, 2025. More likely.
At the recent public presentation of the Bohol Poll 2025, surveyed by the Holy Name University Research and Publication Center, research director Maria Paz Espiritu said that except for controlling graft and corruption which resulted in a poor net rating, the Provincial Government generally capped a good year.
CITY GOVERNMENT
The City government scored excellent in ensuring adequate potable water, had a very good net rating in investment promotions, protecting the environment, protecting life and property and providing livelihood and employment opportunities.
It also got and good net satisfaction ratings in traffic management, reducing graft and corruption.
From the polling center with 27 years of regular rounds and 10 pre-election surveys under its belt, the HNU Bohol Polls showed that a great majority of Tagbilaran survey respondents or 86 percent showed satisfaction with the city’s efforts to ensure adequate drinking water, only 9% were dissatisfied, for a net satisfaction rating of +79, which is 33 points higher than the 2024 poll results.
In promoting investments, the City government scored a +64 net satisfaction rating, which is equal to Very Good; higher than the +59 net rating last year, now that 73% of the respondents said they were satisfied and only 9% of the 100 respondents thumbed the city efforts down.
In protecting the environment and providing livelihood opportunities and employment, the city got a +66 percent net rating, 11 points over last year’s accomplishment in protecting the environment and in providing livelihood, the city got a +67% net rating, 11 points over 2024.
The City also got a very good rating in protecting life and property when survey respondents gave a +64 satisfaction rating, 9 points past the 2024 survey results at 55%.
Tagbilaran City also got a good rating for its traffic management and reducing graft and corruption.
For traffic management, the city scored a +33, which is 26 points over the 2024 survey at +14, and in reducing graft, the city bagged a +27 satisfaction rating, 13 points of improvement compared to last year.
The City had 100 survey respondents, resulting in a +/-5 margin of error.
PROVINCIAL GOVERNMENT
Meanwhile, the Provincial Government scored a +52 net satisfaction rating in promoting tourism for a very good net rating, but this is 6 points lower than the +58 it scored last year.
For protecting the environment, Bohol scored a +39 net satisfaction rating, which went down from a +41 net rating in 2024, while in protecting life and property, Bohol scored a +34 percent net rating, but this is 9 points below last year’s ratings, according to Espiritu.
For ensuring adequate food supply, Bohol also made it through with a +30 satisfaction net rating, the only one indicator with a one point higher than last year’s survey results.
In providing support to the promotion of agriculture, Bohol scored a +39 net satisfaction rating, some 2 points less than that of last year’s ratings.
In investment promotions, where Bohol should have an ace, this year proved to be a slow year with a +29 percent satisfaction rating from Boholanos, which is actually 12 points lower than the s2024 survey results, scoring only a moderate rating like its efforts in providing livelihood opportunities and employment, which only got the province +29 net approval rating which the pollsters rate as moderate.
This is 14 points lower than its 2024 survey rating.
In controlling graft and corruption, 48 of the Boholanos surveyed think the local government has yet to improve its efforts in controlling graft and corruption, only 28% of the respondents satisfied with the efforts.
This resulted to a -20% satisfaction rating, 21 points down from last year’s survey.
The Provincial Government, owing to the 400 respondents for the entire province keeps a +/-5 margin of error. (PIABohol)
