Senior citizens join provincial congress

At least 950 senior citizens attended the Provincial Senior Citizens Congress held on October 25 at the Bohol Cultural Center in Tagbilaran City.

“Pinaagi sa Office of the Provincial Social Welfare and Development, gitapok kamo karon aron mapaabot sa inyong Kagamhanang Probinsyal ang among pagtagad kaninyo ug ipakita nga seryoso kami sa paglantaw sa inyong mga panginahanglan,” said Gov. Erico Aristotle Aumentado during the event.

The governor noted that from January to October 2024, 13 senior citizens reached the age of 100 and were honored by the provincial government with a Centenarian cash gift of P100,000 each.

Zerlina Vasquez, program officer of the Office of the Provincial Social Welfare and Development (OPSWD) – Office of the Senior Citizens Affairs (Osca), said there were 13 centenarians have already received their cash gifts from OPSWD. Currently, 12 more cash gifts are pending distribution, and an additional eight senior citizens who will turn 100 this year are also set to receive these gifts, with funding in the process.

With the theme “Senior Citizens – Building the Nation, Inspiring Generations,” Aumentado expressed gratitude and highlighted the significant role of the senior citizen sector in the development of the province of Bohol.

The one-day event brought joy to the senior citizens through activities such as dance and song performances and was further enriched by the presence of Jocelyn Tabotabo, officer- in-charge of the National Commission on Senior Citizens Region VII. (PIMO/ALT/RFP)
