Governor Aris Aumentado recently met with officials from the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) in Bohol to address and refine various issues related to environmental regulations affecting his constituents.
Aumentado wanted to establish a joint task force aimed at strengthening the enforcement of rules, particularly those concerning the protection of the Chocolate Hills, a Unesco Geopark Heritage site.
The governor also intended to review resolutions passed by the Protected Area Management Board (PAMB) and revoke those pertaining to violations of the Expanded National Integrated Protected Areas System Act (e-NIPAS Act). This review is intended to ensure compliance with national standards and provisions.
He would assess the compliance status of individuals and establishments that have previously violated environmental preservation regulations to determine if they have made the necessary corrections as required.
These actions were agreed upon during the meeting to ensure serious attention to environmental protection and to prevent further violations.
In attendance were Bohol Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (Penro) Jose Cleo Cary Colis, Community Environment and Natural Resources Office (Cenro) – Talibon Edgar Ricafort, and Cenro- Tagbilaran Glicerita Racho. Also present were provincial administrator Asteria Caberte, chief of staff Filipina Asoy-Piollo, executive assistant Romeo Teruel, provincial legal officer Handel Lagunay, PEO head Engr. Camilo Gasatan, BPEMO Head Tata Ganub, and lawyer Roland Inting.
Aumentado called on the public to join him in supporting the preservation of the province’s natural heritage, consistent with his strategic governance roadmap. (PIMO/ALT/NDF)
