Bohol joined in celebration of the 10th anniversary of the first fabrication laboratory in the Philippines.
Fablab Bohol was inaugurated last May 2, 2014 at the Bohol Island State University (BISU) main campus.
Since then, it has grown to a community of 48 branches nationwide.
Fablab is a collaboration among the Department of Trade and Industry, the Department of Science and Technology and Japan International Cooperation Agency and BISU.
An evolving inventory of core capabilities, Fablab desires to make almost anything, allowing people and projects to be shared.
A global network of independent local labs, it enables invention by providing access to tools for digital fabrication.
Fabx Ph said it continues to create innovation as a community resource, offering open access for individuals as well as scheduled access for differing age and interest groups
Speaking during the opening ceremonies, Gov. Erico Aristotle Aumentado said Fabx Ph “is not just a celebration but also a testament to the ingenuity, and creativity of Boholanos and Filipinos in utilizing design, topping experts, and introducing new technologies to capacitate Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises to expand businesses further and introduce new products through cooperation.”
Aumentado publicly expressed support for the organization before the participants, partners, stakeholders, and organizations
“In the history of innovation in the province and entire country, let this celebration serve as an inspiration to continue being a way and firmly establish fab labs’ role and creative economic legacies,” the governor added.
Recognizing the important role of fab labs to the community in shaping the future of the scientific, creative, and economic sectors, the governor reiterated Bohol’s continuing support.
He added that it is Bohol’s pride to lead the way in introducing this concept to the country together with partner agencies and expanding in capabilities to further meet the growing needs of the MSMEs and provision of the essential pieces of machinery, equipment, tools, and expertise.
The provincial government has vowed to be a partner in various initiatives aimed to allow entrepreneurs to access various technologies and services that are available at the latter.
Present during the anniversary celebration were provincial administrator Asteria Caberte, Marie Elena Arbon, DTI 7 regional director; Dr. Anthony Penaso, BISU president; Leonila Baluyut, DTI-CIG assistant secretary; and Vina Antopina, DOST Bohol provincial director. Tagbilaran Mayor Jane Yap also sent her representative.
Representatives from BISU-Main, Candijay, Bilar and Calape campuses, Holy Name University, BIDA, Philippine Science High School-Main, Cebu Technological University-Main, Danao and Argao Campus, Tabalong National High School and Manga National High School also attended the event.
The provincial government said it will expand collaboration to ensure that the people can benefit from a smart, resilient, and inclusive Bohol under its Strategic Change Agenda through a resilient economy, technologically advanced society. (PIMO/RJG)
