TAGBILARAN CITY — The 27.121-megawatt (MW) Dagohoy Solar Power Plant (DSPP), the first utility-scale solar facility in Bohol, is set to commence commercial operations on Wednesday, July 16, 2025 following the necessary regulatory clearances.

According to a report from Bilyonaryo.com, the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) granted the project a provisional authority to operate (PAO) on July 4. Shortly after, the Independent Electricity Market Operator of the Philippines (IEMOP) approved its commercial operations date in the Wholesale Electricity Spot Market (WESM) on July 8.

The solar power facility is seen as a significant development for Bohol, a province that has long depended on imported electricity from neighboring regions and a handful of small-capacity diesel and hydro plants.

“This is a vital step toward improving energy security in the province while supporting our push to position Bohol as a leading ecotourism destination,” said Provincial Board Member Niño Rey Gadiano, chair of the committee on energy.

The DSPP will also begin supplying power to SN Aboitiz Power (SNAP) under a power supply agreement upon its entry into the WESM.

The Dagohoy Solar Power Plant is one of four ground-mounted solar projects with a total combined capacity of 111.58 MW being developed by Rizal Green Energy Corp., a joint venture between PetroGreen Energy Corp. (PGEC) and Japan’s Taisei Corporation.

Local officials and clean energy advocates have welcomed the project, viewing it as a long-overdue investment in sustainable and indigenous energy for Bohol’s growing economy.
