Bohol government greenlights funding for diverse community projects to boost local economies

The Provincial Cooperative Development Office (PCDO) has announced the approval of project proposals presented by various people’s organizations in Bohol.

This decision was made during the recently concluded project proposal defense led by provincial administrator Asteria Caberte held on July 9 at the Capitol Ceremonial Hall.

Also present during the activity were Ma. Conrada Fuentes, Gil Bongato of PCDO and Romeo Teruel, head of the Provincial Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (Elcac).

A panel comprised of representatives from the Bohol Provincial Environment Management Office (BPEMO), Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR), Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), Provincial Cooperative Development Office (PCDO), Office of the Provincial Agriculturist (OPA), Office of the Provincial Veterinarian (OPV), Provincial Motor Pool Office (PMPO), and Provincial Employers Office (PEO) reviewed and approved funding for numerous community projects.

These projects, proposed by approximately 40 people’s organizations, include initiatives such as acquiring farm machinery, fishing supplies, backyard hog fattening, seed capital for food vending, farm inputs, tilapia fish ponds, fish cages, and capital funds for purchasing fertilizers and constructing water reservoirs.

One of the highest funding approvals reached nearly P1 million for a single community project.

The panel ensured that the funds would be utilized properly and that the organizations receiving support are adequately trained to manage the supplies provided.

Additionally, several organizations were required to register their ventures and meet certain conditions to secure approval.

The organizations, primarily composed of farmers, fishermen, livestock growers, finance cooperatives, and home workers from the different towns of Bohol that aim expand their business reach and increase income to support their families and daily living needs.

This initiative is supported by the provincial government of Bohol as part of its strategic change agenda to empower micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), contributing to economic growth, food security, and financial stability. (PIMO/NDF)
