Guv bans entry of pork from Panglao Island to mainland Bohol due to undertermined viral disease

The provincial government has ordered a temporary ban on the entry of live hogs, boar, pork, and pork-related products from Panglao Island to mainland Bohol due to undetermined viral disease.

Governor Aris Aumentado issued Executive Order no. 13 Series of 2024, “Prohibiting the transport of Live Pigs, Cooked and Uncooked Pork Meat, Pork Products and by Products from the Island of Panglao comprising the Municipalities of Dauis and Panglao into mainland Bohol and other islands in the province for a period of 30 days”

Aumentado said that on Wednesday, April 17, the Office of the Provincial Veterinarian received reports on multiple illnesses and deaths of pigs with high probability to be caused by an undetermined viral disease in the Purok 5 of Mayacabac and Purok 4 of Biking, all in the Municipality of Dauis.

The Provincial Government of Bohol through the Office of the Provincial Veterinarian in coordination with the Municipal Government of Dauis and the Barangay Officials of the two barangays are conducting ongoing disease investigation and blood sampling for laboratory examination to determine the specific disease.

“Whereas, strict observance of disease prevention and relevant control measures will increase the volume of production, Improve the safety and quality, and enhance the value of livestock commodities resulting In overall sustainability and food security,” the EO said.
