A lawyer was among the five fatalities who were killed when fighting broke out Friday morning (Feb. 23, 2024) as army troops and police attempted to arrest the NPA’s leader, Domingo Jaspe Compoc, who was among those killed.
Col. Lorenzo Batuan, provincial director of the Bohol Police Provincial Office, confirmed to media that the slain lady lawyer was Hannah Jay Cesista, alias “Maya” or “Lean.”
Cesista passed the November 2022 Bar examinations.
She was with the group of alleged NPA commander Compoc who had a 2.6-million-peso (about $47,000) bounty on his head on charges of rebellion and multiple murders, among others.

A police officer was also shot dead and a second officer was wounded, a Bohol police spokesperson told reporters.
Army public affairs office chief Colonel Louie Dema-ala told reporters that one of the fatalities on the rebels’ side was a “leader” identified as alias Ompoc.
In a separate statement, the Armed Forces Visayas Command (Viscom) said Domingo Jaspe Compoc or Silong was the top NPA leader in Bohol.
“Domingo Compoc who has a bounty of 2.6 million is wanted for several cases including rebellion, homicide, attempted homicide, multiple murder, frustrated murder, and robbery,” it said. With a report from Helen Castano
