The provincial government held the culmination activity and payout for the Special Program for the Employment of Students (SPES) or summer job program on Oct. 14 at the Ceremonial Hall.

A total of 1,010 beneficiaries received P6,000 after completing their 20-day on-the-job trainings in their respective workplaces, either at the Capitol or in their respective local government units (LGUs) under the program according to Maria Vilma Yorong, Bohol Employment and Placement Office-Public Employment Service Office (BEPO-PESO) head.

“Ang solusyon aron makagawas sa kapobrehon, opportunities para ma-improve ang atong kinabuhi,” supervising administrative officer John Maraguinot said of the program.

He noted that this is one of strategies prioritized in the strategic governance agenda under the leadership of Gov. Aris Aumentado.

Maraguinot also congratulated the students for completing the summer job program, learning from actual work and contributing to public service.

Meanwhile, Nicole Kate Perez, a student of Holy Name University, shared how SPES allowed her not only to learn the values of respect, integrity and accountability but also to enhance her communication, interpersonal and problem solving skills.

Initiated by the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), SPES aims to help students from low-income families to finance their education while gaining work experience.

Employers shouldered 60% of the applicable minimum wage or hiring rate, while DOLE took care of the remaining 40%, which will be released through an accredited financial distribution agent. (PIMO/LMS)
