The province of Bohol hosts the 1st Senator Migz Zubiri Cup Arnis Regional Invitational tournament slated in Antequera town.
A total of 168 arnis players from Bohol and the Philippines gathered in Antequera starting today, Oct. 16 for the maiden tournament supported by Senate President Juan Miguel Zubiri.
The five-day tournament, which is set Oct. 16-20, feature four different events namely: individual demo, team demo, individual sparring and team sparring.
The national invitational tournament serves as the tuneup matches for Bohol’s Philippine Eskrima Kali Arnis Federation (PEKAF) teams to the Batang Pinoy and PEKAF National Games who will compete in the Visayas Qualifying Leg.
The champions of the said tournament will then go up against the qualifiers in the PEKAF Battle of Champions for the right to represent the country in upcoming international arnis tournaments.
The tournament sponsored by Sen. Migz Zubiri is supervised by tournament manager senior master Jerry Sibayan and tournament organizer Master Eugene “Sniper” Coquilla.
Arnis, also known as kali or eskrima/escrima, is the national martial art of the Philippines.
