2 siblings in Inabanga town arrested for returning home despite travel restrictions

Police arrested Saturday two siblings in Inabanga town who returned home from Barangay Labangon in Cebu City despite travel restrictions.

Arrested were identified as siblings Maria Jonalie Nioda Bautista, 33, and John Virgil Nioda, 30, who are from Barangay Fatima in Inabanga town.

In an advisory posted by the municipality of Inabanga on Sunday, May 3, 2020, police already filed complaints against the siblings for the violation of Republic Act 1132 or the Mandatory Reporting of Notifiable Diseases and Health Events of Public Health Concern Act and disobedience which is in violation of Article 151 of the Revised Penal Code against the two.

According to Police Captain Fermin Donque Jr, the siblings left their rented place in Barangay Labangon in Cebu City.

Barangay Labangon is now the third area in Cebu City with the highest number of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) cases.

The two hired a pump boat from Cordova town in Cebu province to get to Inabanga town. The two arrived at 11:30 a.m. in Barangay Fatima in Inabanga town on May 1.

They immediately went to the house of their mother who is a barangay councilor in the said barangay.

Police said it was on Saturday noon, May 2 that they received information about the siblings arrival. Health authorities and police proceeded to the barangay and found them. They were immediately brought to the Barangay Isolation Center while their home was disinfected.

The town’s advisory said that their home was also placed under lockdown. Their mother and other members of the family, including an infant and a senior citizen, were also placed under home quarantine.

The teamINABANGA led by Mayor Roygie Jumamoy continued to hold regular Incident Management Team (IMT) physical and video-conferencing meetings with its key officers to ensure that COVID-19 does not affect Inabanga locals.

The 14-Day Barangay Enhanced Community Quarantine of Cuaming Island, the first of its kind in Bohol, was lifted April 24, 2020 after completing stringent COVID-19 measures by protecting its 3,518 residents especially that the island is located nearer to Cebu.

Like the rest of Bohol province, Inabanga is now under General Community Quarantine from May 1 to 31, 2020.
