The low pressure area (LPA) off Eastern Visayas entered the Philippine area of responsibility on Monday afternoon, state weather bureau said.
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa), said the LPA entered at around 3 p.m.
Pagasa update said as of 3 p.m., the LPA is located 1,000 kilometers east of Eastern Visayas..
Pagasa said there is a chance that the LPA will become a tropical cyclone within 24 to 48 hours as it moves toward Northern Luzon.
Once it becomes a tropical cyclone, it will be called “Chedeng.”
It is the third tropical cyclone this year and the second this month.
