A green sea turtle was released back to the ocean after it was found stranded in the mangrove area in Batasan Island in Tubigon town on Tuesday, March 7.
Based on the report of the Local Government of Tubigon, the green turtle was found by a shellfish gleaner on Monday. Along with other residents, they retrieved and brought the turtle to a makeshift fishpond in the coastal area of the island.
The turtle had no injuries.
Green sea turtles are one of the five species of marine turtle that can be found in the Philippines. However, it is the only herbivore among its counterparts.
The green sea turtles are deemed endangered here in the country due to accidental bycatch, overharvesting of eggs, and habitat loss.
