Food vendors selling seafood and drinks at Virgin Island in Panglao, Bohol have been banned forever, Bohol Governor Aumentado said.

“Ban forever didto sa Virgin Island tungod kay maoy gusto sa DENR (Department of Environment and Natural Resources) kay protected area man to,” said Aumentado.

However, he clarified that Virgin Island is only for sightseeing.

“Pero sightseeing puwede pa. Kabahin sa namaligya og mga pagkaon ug adto magpakaon murag no na gyud to,” he added.

He left the implementation to the local government of Panglao headed by Mayor Boy Arcay to implement IT including how to help the displaced vendors.

Aumentado said he was happy with the social acceptance that the good image of the sandbar has been restored after structures were removed last Aug. 3.

Despite the pricey food controversies, local and foreign tourists still flocked to Virgin Island to enjoy the white sandbar and clean water.
