Brace for a 15 hour total power interruption in Bohol this August 20, from 4:00 a. m. to 7:00 p.m.

That is, if the local distribution companies could not get an approved islanding operation, or the use of land-based power supply generators, which are isolated from the national grid.

This as the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) is set to make a scheduled shutdown of the Maasin-Ubay-Corella 138 kilovolt (KV) line to finally restore to its permanent towers which have been temporarily replaced by Emergency Restoration System (ERS) towers.

It may be recalled that during the peak of typhoon Odette’s wrath, NGCP towers number 43, 22 and 105 all in Leyte island, were toppled, disconnecting the power lines and blanketing the entire Bohol and some parts of Leyte under a thick shroud of darkness on a stormy night.

To immediately bring back the power, the NGCP has to put up emergency towers called ERS, to temporarily re-string the powerlines and bring the grid supply to Bohol, while the transmission company builds the replacement permanent towers.

These permanent towers are all ready to permanently carry the load which were transferred to the ERS, according to the NGCP.

Because of this, there will be a scheduled power interruption along Maasin-Ubay-Corella 138KV line on August 20, 2022 from 4:00 AM to 7:00, NGCP, it its power advisory said.

The scheduled shutdown would facilitate the safe stringing of conductors, final clipping, reconductoring works and test as well as recommissioning of the affected towers, according to Engr Jiuseppe R. Lomaad, NGCP District 2 manager for Cebu and Bohol areas.

Moreover, the 69KV Ubay-Tapal line would be de-energized for safety purposes during the stringing operations. (rahc.PIA-7/Bohol)
