Robbery suspect dies during encounter with Bohol cops

A robbery suspect was shot dead during an encounter in Alicia town on Thursday afternoon by responding police officers.

The Bohol Provincial Police Office (BPPO) confirmed that suspect Victor Igpit Aguilar, 42, a resident of Balilihan town was shot dead during an encounter in Alicia town.

The police report said a shootout occurred when the man fired at law enforcers.

Lt. Wilson Orapa, chief of Alicia police, immediately called up the neighboring police stations to conduct road blocking for the possible arrest of the suspect. While chasing the suspect, members of the Provincial Intelligence Unit (PIU) immediately responded while they were on their way home from Ubay town who later encountered the suspect at Sitio Cantugop, Barangay Napo, Alicia.

After the said encounter, Orapa asked medical assistance from Alicia Rural Health Unit with Dr. Erwin Managaytay, Municipal Health Officer, who physically examined the suspect and found out that he was already dead.

Upon physical examination, it was found that the suspect sustained six gunshot wounds in his body which caused his instantaneous death.

Orapa requested the assistance of SOCO-Bohol Provincial Forensic Unit to process the crime scene.

Recovered and evidence collected from the crime scene were one cal. 45 pistol, seven pieces of cal. 45 fired cartridge and one piece cal. 9mm fired cartridge case.

Police said it was found out that the suspect matched to one of the robbers who were engaged on the recent series robbery incidents in Bohol. The motorcycle he used also matched as seen on the videos and photos taken from the closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage from their previous victims.

It was also revealed that the suspect had previous cases filed against him before RTC Br. 2, Tagbilaran City, Bohol for violation of Sec. 5 and 11, Art. II of R.A 9165, and Violation of RA 10591 otherwise known as the “Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act” and was detained in BJMP-Bohol District Jail-Male Dormitory, Cabawan District, Tagbilaran City. On April 1, 2022 he was released after the said cases were promulgated on March 31, 2022 based on his Certificate of Discharge found inside his wallet.

BPPO said there were at least nine incidents of robbery in several towns in a span of less than a week from July 19 to 25.

Gov. Aris Aumentado said that the provincial Government of Bohol is offering P100, 000 cash reward to people who can provide information that will lead to the arrest of the suspects of highway robberies in the province.
