1st Mass Media Awards of the Archdiocese of Cebu, successfully launched

The media ministry of the Archdiocese of Cebu hopes that the dioceses in the country will recognize the workers in the field of media who continue to practice proper journalistic methods.

This is the message of Cebu Archdiocesan Commission on Social Communications (CACoSCo) Chairperson Msgr. Agustin Ancajas at the successful first Cebu Metropolitan Catholic Mass Media Awards (CM-CMMA) of the archdiocese.

The priest believes that the media has a great role to help the church in spreading evangelization especially in the current era where modern technology continues to grow.

“I hope for this to endeavor to become an example to other dioceses as they also respond to the communication pastoral theme: Create, Collab, Commune, in order to recognize meritorious work of media practitioners, promote the proper use of media in social communication, and advocate for honest and true journalism,” said Msgr. Ancajas.

The first CMMA features four categories, namely: Television, Radio, Print and Digital Media.

The award ceremony was held on September 29 at the Mountain Wing of SM Seaside, Cebu City following the successful Cebu Metropolitan Catholic Mass Media Congress.

Attending the gathering were Cebu Archbishop Jose Palma, San Pablo Bishop-designate Marcelino Antonio Maralit, Jr, the current Chairperson of the CBCP Episcopal Commission on Social Communications and Fr. Ramonito P. Maata is the Chairperson of the Commission on Social Communication of the Diocese of Dumaguete.

The CM-CMMA will be held every second year to honor media practitioners covered by the Archdiocese of Cebu and suffragan dioceses: Dumaguete, Tagbilaran, Talibon, and Maasin.

Aside from the work of the archdiocese to honor media practitioners, the Catholic Mass Media Awards (CMMA), Catholic Social Media Awards (CSMA), and the Pasig Catholic Mass Media Awards (PCMMA) have also previously honored the media.
