TAGBILARAN CITY – The Catigbian Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) has advised motorists to take an alternative route following the collapse of the Borja Bridge in Barangay Alegria this morning.

According to Jake Maglajos of Catigbian MDRRMO, the closure began at 9:20 a.m. and it covers all four-wheel vehicles including motorcycles.

A 12-wheeler truck carrying sand from Tagbilaran City bound for the town of Ubay passed by the bridge.

Maglajos said they believed the truck went beyond the bridge’s weight limit of 20 tons, which caused it to collapse. This is aside from the fact that this bridge is also old.

Previously, the LGU closed the other half of the bridge to motorists after they observed that there is already a one-inch gap in its abutment. The bridge incurred damage from the strong quake back in 2013 in Bohol.

The driver of the truck was unharmed, according to a separate interview by Police Senior Master Sergeant Ruel Duites of Catigbian Police Station.

The truck’s owner, Alturas Group, has already contacted a hauler to extract it from the site.

Catigbian MDRRMO advised motorists to extend their patience as their travel time in going to Sagbayan would take an additional 15 to 20 minutes. ###
