The operation to salvage the vehicles that submerged underwater in Loay has been suspended today.

Anthony Damalerio, provincial disaster risk reduction and management office (PDRRMO), said the salvage operation was suspended today for vehicles that fell into the river after a bridge collapsed in Loay on Wednesday afternoon.

According to PDRRMO Anthony Damalerio, there is not enough equipment to continue the salvage operation which has been canceled several times due to strong currents.

“We have stopped operations for the day because according to volunteer divers, we need commercial divers to do the salvage operation,” he said.

He said there were two motorcycles and one multicab recovered from the 15 vehicles that fell.

He added there were no dead bodies inside the vehicles.

On Tuesday, the new bridge is expected to be opened for motorists.

The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) said the new bridge is safe and durable.

“This bridge is really strong,” said Magiting Cruz, 3rd district engineer.

Last Wednesday, the Clarin Bridge collapsed, killing four people and injured 24.
