Driver falls asleep at wheel and hits pole

Around 10 houses were without electricity for more than seven hours after a man fell asleep at the wheel and crashed into a power pole in Cortes town Monday morning, June 7.

Staff Sgt. Gregorio Bayucot said Rogelio Galaura, 61, was driving his Ford Ranger when he fell asleep driving the street.

Galaura told the police that he was on his way to Tagbilaran City for a dialysis when he fell asleep while driving.

He then lost control of the vehicle and crashed on an electric post.

The impact of the crash took out the power instantly, but the man and his wife weren’t seriously injured.

The vehicle was severely damaged.

The incident caused heavy traffic in the area.

Several houses were without power, but it was restored on Monday afternoon.
