The Tagbilaran City government celebrates its 54th Charter Day today, July 1, 2020, with no fanfare commemorating the autonomy of the city.
At 7 a. m., bells tolled and the sound of sirens filled the air.
A 9 a. m. online mass was officiated by Bishop Abet Uy of the Diocese of Tagbilaran.
At 10 a. m. Mayor John Geesnell “Baba” Yap delivered his Charter Day message via his Facebook account.
Tagbilaran City achieved its cityhood status on July 1, 1966 by virtue of Republic Act 4660 signed by then President Ferdinand Edralin Marcos.
The Tagbilaran City Charter Day is also a special non-working holiday for city establishments.
