The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources in Central Visayas (BFAR-7) has released more than 62,000 tilapia fingerlings in Loboc River.
Loboc River, a famous attraction in Bohol, has turned into a fish production site in order to respond to the need for food availability.
As tourism slowed down with restrictions on mobility and travels, the renowned river will soon be a source for fish supply and of income among locals.
BFAR regional director Dr. Allan Poquita led the release of the fingerlings on Tuesday, April 21.
Poquita was assisted by Bohol provincial fishery officer Candido Samijon and Loboc officials.
Good thing that the Clarin Freshwater Fish Farm (CFFF), one of BFAR-7’s field facilities, was able to produce such huge number of fingerlings.
Tasked to support the government’s food security measures, the regional office initiates its own version of the Plant, Plant, Plant Program of the Agriculture Department; instead of seeds, personnel stock fingerlings on several fishery-managed areas.
Not only vegetables and fruits can provide health benefits to the body, fishes also give nutrition that boosts one’s immune system. Ma. Rocile Angela Josol, CFFF Information Officer
