Classes in several areas were suspended on Monday, March 2, following the 5.5-magnitude earthquake that struck some parts of Visayas around 5:20 a.m. Monday, March 2, 2020.
Classes were suspended in Capoocan town in Leyte province.
In Talisay City, Mayor Gerald Anthony Gullas has ordered the suspension of classes in all public elementary and high schools to allow the inspection of school buildings.
He said the earthquake that was felt earlier today should not be taken lightly.
The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) reported that the quake’s epicenter was located eight kilometers northwest of Capoocan, Leyte.
The tremor was tectonic and had a depth of 13 kilometers. It struck Capoocan at 5:19 a.m.
It was felt at Intensity 5 in Tacloban City and Pastrana, Leyte; and Intensity 4 in Palo, Leyte.
Other areas that felt it are:
Instrumental intensity 4 — Ormoc City; Naval, Biliran; Borongan City
Instrumental intensity 2 — Bago City
Instrumental intensity 1 — Masbate City; Roxas City
Phivolcs sad damage and aftershocks are expected.
