Army encounter with armed men in Bilar leaves 2 dead

A soldier and an unidentified armed man were killed in an encounter in Bilar town this morning, the Philippine Army (PA) based in Bohol confirmed.

Lt. Grace Remonde, civil military officer of PA’s 47th Infantry Battalion (47IB), told Bohol Island News (BIN) in a phone interview that they could not yet release the name of the soldier since they have yet to inform the family about it.

Remonde said their troops were conducting clearing operations in Barangay Cambigsi when they encountered an undetermined number of armed men in the area and engaged in a firefight.

This happened at around 9 a.m. in the mountainous barangay.

However, they could not conclude yet if these armed men are members of the New People’s Army (NPA) or any local terrorist group.

She added that they are still conducting an ongoing hot pursuit operation.
