Stains of blood were still visible on the floor near the doorstep of Alburquerque town mayor’s residence where Wilfrido Plaza was found after he was shot by unknown assailants on Thursday night, Jan. 9, 2020.

Alburquerque Mayor Don Ritchie Buates said the killing of barangay kagawad and his trusted aide Wilfrido Plaza was politically motivated.

“Posible na, usa sa mga anggulo nga gitutukan karun. Tungod kay si Wilfrido supporter nako,” Buates said on Friday.

He said Plaza, a relative was like a “second father” to his children.

“Siya ang right hand nako, mura na og second father sa akong mga anak,” he said.

Buates called on authorities to conduct a speedy investigation into the killing of Plaza, who was shot at his residence at 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 9, 2020.

He was immediately brought to Ace Medical Center in Tagbilaran City but he later succumbed to multiple gunshot wounds in his body.

Plaza was a village councilor of Barangay East Poblacion in Alburquerque town. He ran for town councilor in 2019 under Buates but lost.

Alburquerque Police said they are still investigating the incident.
