A group of Badjaos can be found in Tagbilaran City on Sunday, Dec. 22, 2019 to ask alms from passersby.

They are roaming the major streets of Tagbilaran City counting on the kindness of strangers this Christmas time.

Described as “sea gypsies,” they live in Zamboanga, Jolo, Basilan, Sulu and Tawi-Tawi.

In Bohol, they are found in Barangay Totolan in Dauis town.

According to Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), the Badjao people have been leaving their ancestral land in waves over the past decade to look for better opportunities and to avoid the armed conflict.
