It could be a rainy Christmas for parts of the country, as a tropical cyclone is brewing outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR).
The potential storm is expected to make landfall in Northern Mindanao or Eastern Visayas on Christmas eve, the state weather bureau said.
Engr. Al Quiblat, chief of the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) in the Visayas, said that based on their monitoring, there is 60 to 70 percent chance that the expected tropical depression will hit Leyte.
He said it’s possible that the tropical depression may also make landfall in Cebu or Bohol on December 24 and 25.
However, Quiblat clarified that the LPA is still located outside the PAR.
As of 3 a.m. today, Dec. 22, the LPA was estimated at 65 km South Southwest of Davao City, Davao del Sur (6.8 N, 125.5 E).
